Horwing is an Australian red wine producer with wines from 2 regions, the Limestone Coast and South-Eastern Australia. South Australia is known as Australia’s wine capital. The vast diversity in geography and climate allows South Australia to be able to produce a range of grape varieties from the famous ‘green bell pepper’ flavours of Cabernet Sauvignon to full-bodied Shiraz.

South Eastern Australia wines are widely known to be made from vinifera grape varieties. Chardonnay, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are the most likely ingredients of a South Eastern Australia white wine while the red wines consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. The vast viticulture effectively encompasses every significant Australian wine region outside of West Australia. Cabernet Sauvignon is the second most widely planted red wine grape in Australia, followed by Shiraz. Australia is also the world’s second-largest Shiraz grower after France.

Shiraz arrived in Australia in 1831 when James Busby made a trip back to Europe to collect cuttings from vines primarily from France and Spain for introduction in Australia. By the 1860s, Shiraz was established as an important grape variety in Australia. Shiraz is a dark-skinned grape variety grown throughout the world and used primarily to produce red wine. Small amounts of Shiraz is used to produce rose wine and sparkling red wine. Wines made from Shiraz grape is naturally concentrated in flavours and high in tannin content. This unique grape also produces wines with a wide range of flavour notes depending on the soils where it is grown and local climates, as well as other viticultural practices.

Horwing Shiraz 2019 is crimson with inky blue-violet colours. A silky rich and ripe mouthfeel gives way to a touch of pepper with soft lingering tannins. This fine example of Australian Shiraz combines generous layers of black cherry with a bouquet of liquorice and plum. Bottled at 14.5% ABV
